Basic Technology

Basic technology includes the fundamental technologies for design, analysis, testing and evaluation to promote the development of safety technology and the equipment and facilities required for that purpose. The basic principle of Toyota’s concept of safety is the pursuit of actual safety, or the achievement of excellent safety performance based on the analysis of accident data. Accident investigation data are used to analyze why accidents occurred and what caused injuries. That is followed by verifying measures in various simulations for R&D. Finally, the technologies are assessed by, for example, on-vehicle tests so that vehicle models can be commercialized. Toyota thinks that the development and enhancement of the basic technology is important for repeating the processes described above.
