Brake Assist

Applies additional brake pressure during emergencies.

An investigation of the actions taken by drivers* during emergencies indicated that roughly half of them did not apply sufficient braking force to avoid accidents (according to a Toyota survey : Figure 1). Brake Assist is a system that applies additional braking force to compensate for drivers who cannot press the brake pedal hard enough(Figure 2).

Detects an emergency and increases the brake pressure.

Brake Assist measures the speed and force with which the brake pedal is pushed to determine whether the driver is attempting an emergency stop. If the system determines that is the case, it applies additional brake pressure to generate a greater braking force.
