Collision Tests
For developing safe vehicle bodies and occupant protection devices.Toyota conducts its own accident investigations and also collects a great deal of accident data from both inside Japan and abroad, utilizing this information to create safe vehicles. Toyota's safety research facility where a wide range of tests are performed. Toyota's safety research facility is massive, with a building area of approximately 39,000 m2, a total floor area of approximately 44,000 m2, and is 280-m long and 190-m wide (at the widest point). The all-weather type collision test center consists of two barrier-collision lanes and a car-to-car collision lane. The latter can accommodate car-to-car collision tests involving 2-ton vehicles at a maximum speed of 140 km/h, as well as car-to-car collision tests at a 15-degree offset angle and with different speeds. Inside the collision test center, various tests can be carried out that replicate actual rollover accidents, such as trip-overs and fall-overs. These tests enable Toyota to evaluate its cars more thoroughly by reproducing a wider variety of accidents than ever before. |
