Lane-Keeping Assist
System to help prevent drivers from a lane departure that may lead to an accidentAccording to NHTSA data, about 37 percent of road fatalities while driving on highways in the U.S. are caused by road departures (Figure 1). System to help the driver to keep vehicles stay on course by recognizing the lane with a lane recognition cameraToyota's Lane-Keeping Assist has two functions. (1) Lane departure warning functionWhen the system determines that the vehicle may deviate from the lane, it contributes the driver in preventing this by alerting the driver with a warning buzzer, a warning message on display and applying a small counter-steering force. (2) Lane keeping assist functionWhen the Rader Cruise Control is activated, the system assists the driver to steer, thereby making it easier to stay on course near the center of the lane by continuously applying a small counter-steering force. In some cases this function may not activate depending on factors such as the road environment including the condition of the lane on the road, or the driving conditions including the vehicle’s speed. Expansion to models under consideration in view of the road environment of individual countriesToyota first introduced Lane-Keeping Assist in the "CROWN MAJEST" model in September 2004 and has been equipped it with certain model vehicles. |
